Tech Topic Connection
I have chosen the topic of IT careers and Web and mobile
applications. I chose IT careers because of all the career paths available,
having a career in the IT field can not only be a lucrative venture, but one
that promises continual education. The latter aspect is important to me because
I am always looking to extend my knowledge and take on the challenge of doing
something new and different. Working in the field of information technology for
more than 15 years has shown me this career path offers me just that, a way to
extend knowledge, challenges, and allowed me to earn a decent salary in the
process. I also like the fact that there are multiple opportunities within this
career path.
Most people when they hear about the career of Information Technology or web/mobile applications careers, they automatically assume you only fix, and repair said topics. But this field offers much more than that. In fact, it may not involve troubleshooting a personal computer at all. Below is a list of some of the IT careers available
·
·
Data Scientist
·
Network Administrator
·
Cloud Engineer
·
IT Project Manager
·
Artificial Intelligence
Engineer
This is just a few of the fields
within an IT career, but it does show the expansion and growth in this career
field. Many people assume that this career path is for young college students,
and they question whether a field this vast something is an older person past
30 years of age can handle. But to the contrary men and women of 40+ years are
entering this field and finding great success and longevity.
Web/mobile
application is a career of interest to me because I use these almost every day
and would like to know the operation behind these apps. The hope is to learn
how to create my own for personal and business usage. This too is a growing
field that deserves more research and study. One of the questions that I see
need to be answered is how to make these apps work smoother without so many
glitches and updating requirements. Of all the apps that I use both mobile and
web related, this is probably the largest complaint I have.
Both
web/mobile applications and IT careers involve having a working knowledge of
information technology. A person pursuing a career in these industry fields
will need to be knowledgeable concerning applications such as Microsoft Word,
PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft related applications. Knowing how
computers operate when it comes to speed and the proper storage of data is
essential to becoming successful in these career fields.
When
it comes to web and mobile application careers, it is vital to also have
knowledge in programming languages as it pertains to this field. Most
application development in this area use markup languages in their creations.
Some examples of these include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, PHP, and Java.[1]
These powerful programming languages are used to build, design, and manage
websites and applications. Web and mobile application development also utilizes
specific applications such as Visual Studio Code for the development of
software. This application is a versatile editing software application that
offers intelligent autocompletion, integrated debugging, and version control
with Git (version control system that tracks versions of files).[2]
In
this career field security is most important. With web-based applications,
access to sensitive data is enhanced. While most of these applications have
built in security features such as routing all HTTP traffic to HTTPS and the
use of updated versions of TLS, having an extra layer of security will help to
reduce the threats. One example is to implement strong authentication and
secure coding practices. This layered security approach will help enhance the
overall resilience of the web applications.[3]
